Research status: Verified VIN and several factory-label details from photographs of this vehicle. The torn build sheet is a strong accompanying document, but its VIN area is missing or unreadable. Seller statements about ownership, mileage, and originality remain attributed claims.

Vehicle and evidence

Bring a Trailer lot 266,109 identifies this truck as a 1976 Chevrolet K10 Custom Deluxe Stepside 4×4, VIN CKD146B137470. The same VIN is legible on the vehicle identification plate, the federal certification label, and the photographed warranty paperwork. The certification label gives a February 1976 manufacture date and 6,200-pound gross vehicle weight rating.

The photographed, damaged build sheet reads model CK10703, color 73, interior trim 731, Baltimore assembly plant, and 6,200-pound GVWR. Its visible scheduling field reads 02-16; that is a document field, not proof of the exact completion date. GM’s 1976 Chevrolet Truck information kit lists CK10703 in the K10 pickup specifications (printed “Pickup—Page 12,” dated August 29, 1975; PDF p. 16). This independently supports the model-series reading, but does not identify which individual truck the damaged sheet accompanied. Chevrolet’s 1976 service supplement decodes the B in the photographed vehicle VIN as Baltimore, matching the assembly-plant reading on the sheet. The matching plant is another consistency check, not a substitute for a VIN printed on the sheet. A period Sherwin-Williams 1976 production-color manual lists Chevrolet/GMC truck paint code 73 as Crimson Red (printed p. 56); this corroborates the color name independently of the listing. The sheet itself prints “73V -DK-VIN-OXBLD,” “EMB PLAID,” and “731 -INT-TRM-OXBL”: a conservative reading identifies 73V as dark Oxblood embossed-plaid vinyl and 731 as Oxblood interior trim. This decodes the document, not the originality of the present seat. The surviving sheet does not visibly carry the VIN, so attribution to this truck is supported by the accompanying document set and matching specifications rather than a direct VIN reading on the sheet.

Chevrolet’s 1976 service supplement decodes the D in this vehicle’s photographed VIN as the 250-cubic-inch six-cylinder engine designation; this records the factory specification, not proof that the engine now installed is the original unit. The listing describes a 250-cubic-inch inline-six, three-speed automatic transmission, dual-range transfer case, red vinyl and plaid bench seat, and power steering. Photographs show the seat and a full-time 4×4 operating-instruction label. Chevrolet’s 1976 pickup brochure states that Turbo Hydra-Matic-equipped four-wheel-drive pickups were supplied with full-time four-wheel drive. The brochure supports this configuration generally; the photographed label is vehicle evidence, but a transfer-case identification tag or casting has not been verified for this truck. Additional engine photographs show a raised block casting number that appears to read 366855 and a stamped pad that appears to read F0120TAS. Chevrolet’s 1976 light-truck service supplement explains this stamp pattern: F denotes Flint, 01 the month of January, 20 the day, T a truck application, and the remaining AS identifies an engine/transmission combination. GM’s Light Truck Parts Catalog 51, revised February 1983, explicitly lists TAS under its 1976 CK-truck 250-six chart as a C10/K10 application with Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 (printed TP17 p. 17; PDF p. 21). This is a factory service-parts reference to the application, not a vehicle-VIN match. A January 20 engine assembly date is compatible with the February 1976 vehicle certification label. The stamp itself contains no year. GM also lists TAS for the 1977 C10/K10 250-six with TH350 (Catalog 51, revised February 1983, printed TP18 p. 18; PDF p. 22), so F0120TAS does not by itself establish a 1976 engine assembly year. A later engine swap could also carry a compatible date; no matching VIN derivative or conclusive engine-originality evidence has been established. The air cleaner carries a 250 Turbo-Thrift decal, which is appearance evidence only. The listing says the seat has not been re-covered; this is a seller report, not an established originality finding.

Factory power-team reference

Chevrolet’s January 16, 1976 Pickup Power Teams chart pairs the K10 250-cubic-inch six (LD4) and Turbo Hydra-matic (M40) with a New Process 203 transfer case. The same row lists 3.73 rear gearing (GT4) as standard and 4.11 (H04) as available. This establishes the documented factory combination, not the identity or originality of the transfer case and axle now installed in CKD146B137470; their identification markings have not been verified. Factory carburetor comparison

For comparison, Chevrolet’s 1976 service supplement lists a 1MV carburetor, identification number 17056006, for the Federal HD-emissions K10 250-cubic-inch six (LD4) with automatic transmission. The truck’s emissions configuration and installed carburetor identification have not been verified; this is a factory application reference, not proof of what this individual truck received or retains. History and limits

The photographed Chevrolet warranty folder records October 22, 1976 as the “Date of Delivery to First Retail Purchaser.” The accompanying Limited Rustproofing Warranty, certificate no. 70517, names F. W. Spaulding & Sons, Inc. as dealer, repeats VIN CKD146B137470, and records rustproofing on October 13, 1976. This is VIN-linked document evidence for the dealer association, beyond the later Hemmings account; the two dates are transcribed as entered and are not assembly dates. Source: Bring a Trailer lot 266,109, photo gallery, preserved warranty-folder/rustproofing-certificate photograph, reexamined October 17, 2026. No photograph, owner name, or address is reproduced.

Bring a Trailer recorded a $33,000 winning bid on October 1, 2026. This establishes the reported auction result, not independent proof of a completed title transfer or of the seller’s originality claims.

The seller reports that the original owner’s family kept the truck until 2013, that the seller’s father acquired it then, and that the seller acquired it in 2020. An earlier account by Mike McNessor in the February 2020 Hemmings Classic Car (pp. 88–91) identifies F.W. Spaulding and Sons Chevrolet in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, as the selling dealer and describes the father-and-son restoration following the 2013 purchase. Its statements that the engine and plaid upholstery were original are reported claims; a matching engine VIN derivative and independent evidence that the present upholstery is original remain unverified. The listing describes 2014 replacement rear fenders, cab corners, rocker panels, and bed wood, plus repainting in the original color. The five-digit odometer showed about 46,000 miles when listed; actual lifetime mileage is unknown. These changes mean its present appearance cannot be treated as a complete untouched factory reference.
